About Traffic Tool Box
Traffic Tool Box is an open-access computational platform developed independently by Yihang Zhu, M.S. Transportation Engineering (NYU), to address systematic inefficiencies in urban transportation analysis workflows.
Drawing from hands-on experience conducting legally mandated transportation analyses for major urban development projects under CEQR (City Environmental Quality Review), this platform automates and standardizes three of the most labor-intensive and error-prone analytical processes in the field:
- Traffic Flow Modeling. Automated JTW / RJTW analysis with real-world routing via Google Directions API.
- Commute Origin–Destination Data Extraction. One-click retrieval of CTPP OD flows, ACS modal splits, and auto ownership data from the U.S. Census Bureau API.
- Pedestrian Pathway Simulation. Graph-based sidewalk assignment using A* pathfinding with direction-invariant volume aggregation on OSM walk networks.
The platform is designed for use by transportation engineers, urban planners, and EIS preparers nationwide.
